What solutions can a crown provide?
A custom-made dental crown has the advantage of supreme strength over other treatment options. Choose a dental crown if you wish to:
- Restore a weakened or damaged tooth to its original strength
- Restore a tooth to its original shape
- Build up a shortened or comparatively small tooth
- Improve the appearance of a tooth
- Provide extra protection after a root canal
What are the advantages of dentures?
Patients who go from missing teeth to wearing dentures are often amazed at the difference. Dentures are recommended for men and women who are missing some or all of their natural teeth for the purposes of:
- Restoring or improving chewing ability
- Improving smile appearance
- Providing support for gums
- Allowing a variety of foods to be eaten
- Long lasting smile improvement (five to ten years)
- Speech and chewing improvement
Are dental implants preferred over bridges?
Dr. Davis will recommend the restorative option that will give you the best results, concerning both the appearance of your smile and the function of teeth. Implants may be preferred if you want a low-maintenance solution, or bridges may be the treatment of choice - Dr. Davis will need to do a thorough evaluation in order to determine your candidacy for these procedures. Implant placement or bridge placement may not be ideal for certain people, being dependent upon the condition of neighboring teeth, current tooth and gum health, and other factors.
Are dental bridges time-sensitive?
Patients who want to move forward with a bridge placement should ideally have the bridge inserted within six weeks following tooth extraction. Some patients who worry that a missing tooth will be unattractive may request a temporary bridge while the permanent one is being fabricated. The sooner the treatment occurs following tooth loss, the less chance there is that shifting of adjacent teeth will negatively impact your oral health.
What is an implant-supported bridge?
Dr. Davis may suggest an implant-supported bridge if more than one tooth is missing or if tooth strength is in question. Slightly different from the traditional bridge, an implant-supported bridge uses implants topped with a connected crown piece to anchor the bridge to, instead of natural teeth. Use of this type of bridge means there is less pressure put on an individual implant, and a greater chance that the implant(s) will last longer.
